What The Hell Is A Content Pillar?

When I talk about marketing I alway refer to content pillars and I always have a few people ask “What The Hell Is A Content Pillar”?

So let me explain

Think of content pillars as the main themes or topics that are central to your business and brand. These are the broad categories under which all your content falls. They provide a foundation and structure for everything you create, helping you stay consistent and organised.

So for me, the purpose of my business is to show people how to turn their knowledge and expertise into recurring revenue by building digital products, online courses and membership communities, so I organise my content into the pillars of planning, building, launching and growing those three types of asset.

Once you’ve identified your content pillars, you can then start brainstorming specific content ideas which fall into each category. For example:

Content Pillar #1 Planning:

  • Understanding Your Ideal Client
  • Selling The Concept Of Your Product
  • How To Structure Your Online Course
  • How Much Are You Going To Charge?

Content Pillar #2 Building:

  • How To Build Your Membership Site Using [insert site of choice]
  • How To Set Up Recurring Payments
  • How To Record & Edit Your Video Content

By having clarity on your content pillars, you’ll pretty much never run out of things to say. They give you a solid framework for your marketing content, helping you stay organised, consistent and in control.

So there you have it, now you know what content pillars are!

If you want to take it a stage further and actually start using content pillars effectively, my Magnificent Marketing Manager tool not only helps you nail your content pillars but also streamlines your entire marketing process.
